A street address is not always enough for a disabled commercial truck or trailer. You may be on an interstate shoulder, inside a large distribution yard, at a landfill, boat ramp, construction site or in a parking area with no useful address. Your iPhone can help you send a map location to dispatch.

Fast option: share a location from Apple Maps

Open the Maps app. Tap the place or your marked location on the map. Use the Share button and choose the messaging method you want to use. Apple also allows you to touch and hold a location on the map to mark a pin and then share that pin.

If the vehicle is somewhere without a named place

In Maps, touch and hold the map at the vehicle's location until a pin appears. Refine the pin if needed, then use Share. This is useful for highway shoulders, large yards and sites where the mailing address points to the front entrance instead of the disabled vehicle.

Make sure Precise Location is available

On iPhone, Location Services are controlled under Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services. For an app that needs your specific position, Precise Location should be enabled for that app. Do not change settings while driving.

A pin does not replace highway details

If you are on I-95 or Florida’s Turnpike (State Road 91), also tell dispatch northbound or southbound, the nearest exit or interchange and the mile marker if you can see it safely. GPS positions can place a pin near parallel roads or opposite lanes, so direction of travel remains important.

What else to send with your location

Send the vehicle type, problem, tire size and position for tire calls, fleet unit/trailer number when applicable, and photos of the damage or dashboard warning when safe. Never enter traffic or stand in an unsafe location to take a picture.
