Commercial Truck Tire Blowout on I-95 or the Turnpike (State Road 91): Palm Beach Dispatch Checklist
Updated: 7 hours ago
A commercial tire blowout call moves faster when the driver identifies four things correctly: exact location, complete tire size, tire position and whether anything besides the tire was damaged. Those details matter especially on dual assemblies and trailers.
Identify the tire position
For a steer tire, report left or right. For a drive or trailer tire, report axle, left/right side and inside/outside position on a dual assembly. Also report whether the mate tire was driven overloaded after the failure.
Read the complete sidewall size
Core commercial wheel-size categories include 15, 16, 17.5, 19.5, 22.5 and 24.5-inch applications. Verified examples include 295/75R22.5 and 11R22.5, but those are not sales limits. We stock common commercial truck and trailer tire sizes and can source most other commercial tire sizes on request, subject to application and availability.
New, used and recap availability
Commercial 22.5- and 24.5-inch applications may have new, used or recap availability depending on exact size, position, application and current inventory. Regular 15-, 16-, 17.5- and 19.5-inch commercial stock is new only unless later confirmed otherwise.
Look beyond the tire
Report wheel or valve damage, shredded-tread damage to air lines or wiring, wheel-end heat or oil leakage, damage to the adjacent dual, or trailer/suspension contact. A tire failure can be the visible result of another problem.
Highway and corridor information
Give highway, direction, nearest exit or mile marker and whether the vehicle is on a shoulder, plaza, lot or ramp. Palm Beach County calls may involve I-95, Florida’s Turnpike (State Road 91), Southern, Okeechobee, PGA, Donald Ross, Indiantown, Atlantic and Glades Road.
FAQ: Is saying 22.5 enough?
No. Wheel diameter alone does not identify the tire. Dispatch should have the complete sidewall size, position and application whenever possible.
