Landing gear that will not raise, lower or shift between high and low gear can leave a trailer stuck at a dock, yard or roadside location. The failure can involve the crank handle, cross shaft, gearbox, internal gears, leg tubes, foot plates, bracing, lubrication or damage caused by load or impact.

Technician inspecting commercial trailer landing gear, crank and gearbox

Jupiter and Indiantown Road are the north dispatch side of our service area, not the northern limit. From Jupiter we continue north through Tequesta, Hobe Sound, Palm City, Stuart, Jensen Beach, Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce. Mobile Truck Trailer Tire Roadside Repair's overall commercial roadside corridor runs from Boca Raton north through Fort Pierce.

What the symptom can tell the technician

  • Does the crank turn freely without moving the legs?

  • Is the crank locked solid or extremely hard to turn?

  • Does one leg move while the other does not?

  • Is the trailer loaded, empty or partially supported by the tractor?

  • Are the legs visibly bent, twisted or pushed into soft ground?

  • Did the problem begin after impact or while coupling or uncoupling?

Do not create an unstable trailer

Landing gear supports substantial weight. Do not crawl under a trailer, remove structural bracing, or force a damaged crank while the trailer is unstable. Tell dispatch whether the tractor is connected and whether the trailer can be safely accessed from both sides.
