Trailer Brakes Won’t Release: Jupiter to Fort Pierce Air-System Clues

When commercial trailer brakes will not release, the cause can be in the tractor-to-trailer air supply, gladhand connections, airlines, valves, spring-brake chambers, frozen or damaged components, or another part of the brake system. The safest response is not to drag the trailer and hope the brakes free up.

Commercial trailer air-brake roadside diagnosis near the axle and brake chamber

Jupiter and Indiantown Road are the north dispatch side of our service area, not the northern limit. From Jupiter we continue north through Tequesta, Hobe Sound, Palm City, Stuart, Jensen Beach, Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce. Mobile Truck Trailer Tire Roadside Repair's overall commercial roadside corridor runs from Boca Raton north through Fort Pierce.

Clues to report before service

  • Does the tractor build and hold normal air pressure?

  • Are both gladhands connected and sealed?

  • Can you hear air leaking at a line, valve, chamber or coupling?

  • Do all trailer wheels remain locked or only one axle or wheel position?

  • Did the problem begin after parking, reconnecting the trailer, or an air-pressure loss?

  • Are trailer ABS or other warning lights active?

Why brake drag matters

Dragging brakes can create excessive heat and can damage drums, linings, wheel-end components and tires. A hot hub or wheel area should be treated as a separate warning sign and reported to dispatch. Do not touch a suspected hot wheel end with bare hands.

Jupiter and Indiantown corridor dispatch

For Jupiter-area calls, provide the exact location, travel direction and nearest access point. Common corridors include I-95, Florida’s Turnpike (State Road 91), Indiantown Road, PGA Boulevard, Donald Ross Road and Beeline Highway. A map pin and unit number help dispatch identify the correct truck or trailer.
