A trailer ABS warning and a trailer lighting problem can appear at the same time, but they do not always have the same cause. The fastest diagnosis starts at the symptom: which lights are out, whether ABS power is present, whether the tractor shows a trailer fault and whether the problem changes when the cord or connector is moved.

Start with the connection between tractor and trailer

Inspect the 7-way plug and socket for looseness, damaged pins, corrosion, heat damage or a cord that has been stretched. Report whether marker, brake, turn and reverse circuits are affected individually or whether the entire trailer appears electrically dead. A good ground path is as important as the power feed.

ABS faults can continue beyond the connector

If trailer power is present but the ABS lamp remains on, diagnosis may move toward the ABS module, harness, wheel-speed sensors, tone rings or wheel-end wiring. A fault after recent hub, brake or wheel-seal work is useful information because the sensor area may have been disturbed.

What Jupiter dispatch needs

Provide the tractor and trailer type, exact symptom, whether the ABS lamp stays on continuously or changes after moving, and the location. For Jupiter calls, give the I-95 exit, Turnpike (State Road 91) location, W Indiantown Road cross street, warehouse, yard or customer dock. If possible, photograph the 7-way connector and any damaged wiring.
