Specialty & Wide-Base Commercial Truck Tires: What Dispatch Should Verify

Specialty and wide-base commercial tire calls require more information than wheel diameter alone. Mobile Truck Trailer Tire Roadside Repair uses the complete sidewall size, tire position and vehicle or trailer application to determine what tire is appropriate and whether it is available for the roadside call.

What dispatch should provide

Provide the full tire size exactly as molded on the sidewall, whether the failed tire is on a steer, drive or trailer position, the truck or trailer type, and the breakdown location. If there is rim, hub, wheel-seal, brake or suspension damage, include that information before dispatch.

Commercial tire availability rules

New commercial tire service includes 15-inch, 16-inch, 17.5-inch, 19.5-inch, 22.5-inch and 24.5-inch applications. Used and recap commercial tires may be available only for 22.5-inch and 24.5-inch applications, subject to exact size, tire position and current inventory. Verified exact-size examples include 295/75R22.5 and 11R22.5; other exact sidewall sizes should be confirmed before they are represented as stocked.

Steer, drive and trailer position matters

A tire with the correct diameter is not automatically correct for every axle position. The tire's construction, rating and intended use must match the application. This is why dispatch asks for the complete sidewall marking instead of accepting a request for only a 22.5-inch or 24.5-inch tire.
