How to Read a Commercial Truck Tire Sidewall Before a Roadside Call
A commercial roadside tire call moves faster when the driver or dispatcher provides the complete sidewall marking instead of only saying “22.5” or “24.5.” Wheel diameter is only one part of the tire description.
Example: 295/75R22.5
In 295/75R22.5, 295 identifies the nominal tire width in millimeters, 75 is the aspect-ratio series, R indicates radial construction and 22.5 is the wheel diameter in inches. This verified size example is useful for search and identification, but the correct replacement still depends on the tire position and application.
Example: 11R22.5
11R22.5 uses a different naming convention, but the same rule applies: give dispatch the complete sidewall marking rather than only the wheel diameter. 11R22.5 is another verified commercial size example used in roadside tire searches.
Wheel-size categories and inventory rules
New commercial tire service includes 15-inch, 16-inch, 17.5-inch, 19.5-inch, 22.5-inch and 24.5-inch applications. Used and recap commercial tires may be available only for 22.5-inch and 24.5-inch applications, subject to the exact size, position and current inventory.
What dispatch needs
Provide the full tire size, steer/drive/trailer position, truck or trailer type, breakdown location and any visible damage around the wheel end.
