Commercial Trailer Tire Rubbing: What to Tell Dispatch
Updated: 7 hours ago
Describe where the contact occurs
A tire rubbing against a fender, trailer body, suspension component or neighboring tire needs attention before another trip. Tell dispatch what is touching, which wheel position is affected and whether the contact began after tire replacement, loading or an impact. Do not reach into a wheel area while a vehicle can move. Photographs from a safe parked position can help the technician plan the inspection.
A matching wheel diameter is not enough
A replacement tire must suit the exact vehicle, wheel, load and application. The full size, load information and axle position matter. A tire that mounts on a wheel is not automatically suitable for the available clearance. Share both the fitted tire's full sidewall size and the vehicle or trailer specification when available. Avoid substituting a different size without confirming that the application permits it.
The tire may not be the only problem
A rubbing complaint can also involve wheel condition, suspension damage, displaced components or another fitment issue. Tell dispatch about uneven wear, a recent hub repair or signs of movement around the wheel end. The inspection should identify why clearance changed before another tire is installed. If damaged components prevent safe on-site work, dispatch will explain the repair limitations.
Inventory and service availability
Common commercial tire sizes are stocked; other sizes may be sourced subject to application and current availability. Regular 15, 16, 17.5 and 19.5-inch commercial stock is new only. Qualifying 22.5 and 24.5-inch applications may have new, used or recap options, depending on exact size and position. No arrival time or tire option is confirmed until dispatch reviews the location, safe access, workload and parts.
