295/75R22.5 vs 11R22.5 Roadside Replacement: Sidewall Size, Position and Availability

295/75R22.5 and 11R22.5 are two common commercial truck tire examples, but roadside replacement should never be based on a partial size description. The full sidewall marking, axle position, wheel, load requirement and the tire mounted beside it all matter.

What the sidewall size tells you

In 295/75R22.5, 295 is the nominal section width in millimeters, 75 is the aspect ratio, R identifies radial construction and 22.5 is the wheel diameter in inches. 11R22.5 uses an older-style sizing format but still identifies a radial commercial tire for a 22.5-inch wheel. That does not mean the two sizes should automatically substitute for each other.

Tell dispatch the tire position

• Steer position on the tractor.

• Drive position, including which side and inside/outside dual.

• Trailer position and axle.

• Whether the failed tire is paired with another tire in a dual assembly.

• Whether the casing, wheel or hub also appears damaged.

Can you bring a tire if I only know it is a 22.5?

The complete sidewall size is much better. A wheel diameter alone does not identify width, profile, load range or the exact application.
